Forbidden Fruit (Day 2)

Day 2 of The Forbidden Fruit festy in IMMA! A lot less sunshine, a lot less alcohol for me but far more photos for you!

Pix in order of line up appearance are: Dan Le Sac vs Scroobious Pip (the best way to start your day), the legend that is Don Conroy drawing a Barn Owl, Squarehead, Caribou, Enemies, Jamie XX, Battles, Not Squares, Aphex Twin, The Cast Of Cheers.

If Forbidden Fruit were a competition, The Cast Of Cheers would win.

Points of interest: Scroobious Pip is partial to Pinot Grigio and Caribou play in brightly coloured stockings.

Hard Working Class Hero’s 2009

Hard Working Class Hero’s is a 3 day music showcase for unsigned Irish bands. A bloody great idea but a bit disappointing this year. 

No big surprises. Adebisi Shank were by far the best band of the weekend. Followed by Funeral Suits, Villagers, We Cut Corners, Robotnik and Kill Krinkle Club. Honorable mentions to Kyon, Yes Cadets, Sweet Jane and Tiny Magentic Pets and Heritage Centre. 

I dunno, maybe im gettin jaded with Irish music, or just extra fussy as i’m exposed to so much of it first hand. Or maybe there really isn’t a lot of exciting tunes happening here right now… have they all emigrated?

All i can say is Thank Fuck for Adebisi Shank… if it wasn’t for them, the weekend would have been a wash.

oh and as for the Photography Exhibition…. best not mention the war.

Not Squares (Twisted Pepper)

my second time seeing this Nordy band in Twisted Pepper… and christ it was well worth it. They really rock it out, shouty women and bass u can bop to. love it. Go see them live, their myspace doesn’t do them justice. sorry the pix are a bit shite… i was a bit drunk, to say the least. plus the lights were non existent. typical of small Dublin venues really.

Oh and yea, that is a stage invasion… always fun! x
