Keith Duffy

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , on November 3, 2011 by RM

He’s Ciaran from Corrie!!! I met a real Corrie star…. this, my friends, has been a very high point of my career. Yea sure I’ve met loads of other high-flying rock stars, politicians, directors etc… but Ciaran’s been behind the bar. He holds the secret to what’s in Betty’s HotPot. This, to me (and my Mum) is everything.

Met him in the Westbury Hotel with Olaf where they discussed happy times & sad. Interview is in latest issue of HotPress and I’m sure Olaf held it together better than I did. You can also catch Mr. Duffy appearing in Big Maggie in The Gaiety this November.

Jamie Heaslip

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , on May 21, 2011 by RM

Alright, fair enough, I know this is a music blog but Jamie’s just lovely. So lovely that I had to include him on the blog. If it helps, all we talked about during the shoot was music (he’s friends with the Mumford clan apparently).

For the proper muzos here, Jamie plays Rugby. For the full interview with Jamie, check out this weeks Hot Press!

Sufjan Stevens

With a buttery melty voice such as his, he really didn’t need all the theatrics. I’m glad he brought them along anyways. Every lead singer should wear 5 foot fairy wings.

Bipolar Empire

Posted in Bipolar Empire with tags , on May 5, 2011 by RM

Absolute messers in the greatest possible way. Here’s Bipolar Empire visiting Studio 62 last week for Hot Press. They’re only babies in this music scene but already they’ve got World champion boxers in their music vids, Chris from Muse as a stand in bass player and they can claim ownership to “that song off the RTE ad”.

Let’s pretend for a moment that we’ve gone back in time to a few weeks ago and it’s still the run up to Christmas. That way I’m not ridiculously later with this post!

The Hot Press annual Round Table discussion. 2010 included Jinx Lennon, R.S.A.G., Conor Cast of Cheers, Andrew Strong (Mustang Sallllaay), Maud & The Cahoots, May Kay Fight Like Apes. Great craic was had as the hot whiskeys flowed and for the first year ever no one put up a fight with the tinsel & Santy hats! Whoo!

Elton John

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , on December 18, 2010 by RM

I’ve never shot Elton before. I naively thought he’d have a fabulously extravagant live show full of feathers and lights. But no, there was none of that and I was just being a massive stereotyping Ho. Bold Ruth.

Elton and his very underdressed piano:

The Flaws

Posted in The Flaws with tags , , on December 11, 2010 by RM

The lovely Flaws shot in Ireland’s best new photo studio. It features state of the art natural light and much coveted sticky tape walls and broken plug sockets. It also doubles up as the Hot Press back offices. You just can’t buy that type of character.

M.I.A. Tripod

Posted in M.I.A. with tags , , , , , , , on November 23, 2010 by RM

I can honest to God say that I thought that this was shite. Pure shite. After my 3 songs in the snapper’s pit I headed upstairs and watched the rest of the show. It was pants.

I was the only one who thought so though. I looked around mid set and the entire place was loving it. What was wrong with them? Some of my nearest and dearest friends standing all around me giving it socks. These are ordinarily intelligent, music loving folk. But they failed to see that M.I.A. can’t sing. She can’t dance. She can’t play any instruments (or maybe she chose not to, I don’t know, and I don’t care). She basically did bad karaoke for 50 mins. Yes, that’s right. 50 lousy minutes. Maybe she hypnotised everyone… or got them all pissed pre-gig in a secret location that I wasn’t invited to. I dunno, but I’m calling shenanigans on this one.

Ugh. And paper planes was her encore. Shocker.

The Morning Strut

Posted in Fashion with tags , , , , , , , , on October 23, 2010 by RM

Celina is my Home Girl. My Amazonian Goddess. My Love Child and the corrector of my grammar. She’s also my colleague but that sounds very uninteresting.

She’s my style icon lady girl and she has just started Ireland’s top Fashion blog called The Morning Strut. I’m doing all the snaps in my shiny new studio. It’s easy work really as she towers over me, wears little to no clothes, and has perfect skin (It’s the little things in life).

Follow that shiz and you shall be thoroughly entertained by her veracious use of the English language and her unrivaled sense of style. You may even be treated to some stories of Rock Star proportions. When we rock it, we rock it well.

The Hot Press Music Show 2010. Every year Hot Press out do themselves by putting on a bigger and better Music Show. This year was definitely a tear to be proud of. Cast Of Cheers, CODES & Fight Like Apes played, so I was happy. It also featured Damien Dempsey, Republic Of Loose, Cathy Davey and loads more.  If you’re a music nerd it’s totally the place to be with Roland, Zidjlan and every other major music company represented. If only I knew how to play an instrument… not to worry though as we had our very own Rock Photo exhibition too!

first pic had to go to CODES… they always steal the show.

Alive & Clicking Photo Expo

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on October 4, 2010 by RM

Firstly, a big big THANK YOU to all those who visited the Hot Press Music Show this weekend. Particulary to those who dropped by to see the preview of our Alive and Clicking Rock Photo Exhibition.

Myself and the 2 other amazing Hot Press snappers, Andrew Duffy and Graham Keogh had a selection of our finest Live Music Photography on display. These images plus many more will be launched in full in The Grand Social on Wed 6th Oct at 6.30pm. It’ll be a mega night with some live music from Cloud Castle Lake and Veroa. So I suggest you get in early as it’ll fill up fast.

The show will run for 6 weeks and everything you see on the walls will be for sale. It’s all been lovingly mounted and framed to the highest quality and will make a perfect Christmas pressie for those folk who are so tricky to buy for.  You can expect to see shots of Flaming Lips, Lady Gaga, LCD Soundsystem, U2, Muse, Florence, Blur and bucket loads more.

So for those who love music, art, photography and beer… i’ll see you Wednesday night!
