In the Academy… with his blankey.
in the O2, Dublin. Awful lights, awful awful lights. Eww. Bit of a photo challenge I must admit, but at least it makes a change from the normal white light in the O2!
The beautiful Sinead O’Connor rocking the Olympia with that shiver inducing voice of hers.
Absolutely fucking incredible night. One of the greatest gigs I have been to in a very long time. Encapsulating atmosphere created by such powerful songs. Their stage presence has come on leaps and bounds since I last saw them in Electric Picnic 2010(?) and it’s getting really easy to love this band more and more with each gig and album.
The photos, I’ll admit, are a bit shit. Seemed like all the lights got turned on after we left the pit.
Also, check our Mikel climbing the mezz for an entire song. Heart.In.Mouth.
Holy good Jesus the Chilies rocked it last night in the O2. They put on the definition of Arena Rock. The lights, the set list, the visuals… couldn’t fault it in the slightest. They even lit the stage. The actual floor of the stage was made of lights. Such a great consideration for the fans in the seats, I mean who wants to look at a sea of rank duct tape (you hearing this Britney?).
There was a great mix of old & new tunes. Plenty of heartfelt banter to make us feel all special n loved and Flea’s bass playing skills could keep you mesmerised for years.

I’m off to dig out my copy of Blood Sugar….
Britney raunched it up in the O2 last night.
Ghostpoet live in Whelans last night supported by the babyfaced but brilliant MOTHS.
The hottest tickets in town apparently. A bit wasted on me in fairness as I can’t claim to own any of their albums (I just heard you all scoff with disdain). We were made shoot from the very side of the stage in front of the 1700 foot tall speakers which blew my wee ears away. I’m now 98% deaf and I’m sure that pleases the giant ginger lord.
*some slight exaggerations may be present in the above blog.
With a buttery melty voice such as his, he really didn’t need all the theatrics. I’m glad he brought them along anyways. Every lead singer should wear 5 foot fairy wings.
We are indeed of walking abortion. Another stonking set list from these old dudes. Lots from the Holy Bible with a splash of Motwon Junk and M*A*S*H*.
Here’s a point of interest: The Manic Street Preachers were formed in the same year as I was.
Academy on Sunday eve…. the real fans loved it, the inbetweeners remained inbetween. You can read a proper persons review in Hot Press next week. Read more »
