Tonight saw the launch of Grand Pocket Orchestra’s album in Whelan’s.
Best not asking me my opinion of the gig, I’m in such a foul humour that even Michael Jackson rising from the dead and literally moon walking (on the actual freakin’ moon) wouldn’t impress me much. The Hot Pressers liked it, so i’ll probably remain undecided until I read the gig review beautifully written up in next weeks issue, and then be all in love once again. sigh

I purposely didn’t bring my stills camera coz there was no way I was getting sweaty with all the fuckers down on the ground floor. But I couldn’t resist cracking out the iphone for this wee video.
Approached by a band called Tarantella… they have mad an album based upon a story. From what I remember it was dark and disturbed. Featuring kidnapped daughters, abandoned roads and murder. Definitely worth a late night listen when it’s released. I will publish more when the album art work is all wrapped. x

Aaaaaaagh! I cannot believe bands listen to me, I really can’t! I mean, sitting in Simon’s cafe having a wee creative brainstorm and I suggest that we get loadsa naked people on the album cover and the forever lovely Red Labels actually listen to me… I dunno who’s more mental.
So we devise a plan, i do some sketches and then we put out a massive call for arses!…Emails went to the drama societies and the nudey appreciation clubs. Up and down facebook for weeks and weeks to see who amongst us would have the balls (pun-tastic) to get their kit off.

I am tremendously grateful for all of those who turned up and derobed, I have so much respect for you. Thank you. And thank you to The Red Labels for giving me an excuse to snap a room full of nudey’s!

Tres tipsy was I at this Chapters Album launch … and I’m pretty certain i rightly pissed off that arsey gang of elbow snappers in the front row (you know the ones who haunt Whelans… those photographers/camera owners who are adamant in sticking in the one position in front of the mic without budging once and not having the decency to let you in to snap for a second…tsk!)… so all in all a very good snapping gig

Firstly let me say, I’m a big fan. I fell in love with their album Made From Sand back in 2004… like proper love, never left my player, burned a hole right through, CD loving love. Now, with that in mind think how gutted i was when every time that they played in Ireland in I happened to ALWAYS be in another feckin country. I was not missing this gig through hell, high water, wild horses or the Electric Picnic launch party free bar.
5 years of anticipation had passed and during these years Catherine the singer had completely lost her wee voice putting the band on hold… only to find it again recently and record a new album Human Nature which is out now (have a lil preview on their myspace, tis yummy).
This ain’t a review blog you’re right, its a photo blog, so i will wrap this up… lets just say, I wasn’t disappointed. At all.
Check back here soon-ish… as the loverly Alphastates have agreed to a lil photoshoot in the very near future!

aww these little legends sat me down with their mega game plan for album artwork…. all perfectly planned and precise… all’s i had to do was turn up , shove em around the frame a bit and click the cam. Did i mention i love my job?!
anywho, you should be hearing from these kings of Twee in the very near future as their 2nd album is due for imminent release!
