Vibe For Philo

Posted in Glen Hansard on January 7, 2011 by RM

When I was 16 I used to pretend I was Sarah Lynott to get into clubs. It worked. God bless my half cast complexion.

Vicar Street was the venue for this 25th Anniversary to the legendary Phil Lynott. Glen Hansard has finally ditched his loved up, twee/folky shit and hammered out Jailbreak. Props Glen!

(screen shot from Video playing on the night… horribly ominous).

The first night of their Dublin tour. Amazing as ever, warm and welcoming. Glen spending more time telling stories than playing songs. Perfect!

Never fails to be one of the greatest weekends of the year. Nice bit of sunshine and many a secret performance. As always, these images are for sale in lovely big prints or electronically. I also have many more to choose from so drop me a line if you fancy.

Choice Music Prize

I probably don’t have to tell you much about the Choice Awards that you don’t already know so I’ll just tell you a few things that I personally have found out through my Choice years.

It’s one of the greatest nights of the year if you work in this little Irish music industry. People are lovely. They are just lovely. The conversation will never ever run dry in the bar (although the bar itself might).  Scandal and gossip occurs but nobody will talk about it after because People Are Lovely! Doing shots it way more fun with the music legends you adore, even whilst silencing your inner fan. The bar doesn’t really close when they say it does.

I missed Adrian Crowley’s performance… I was at the bar with Daragh being a bold “professional” photographer.

Hotpress Music Show (RDS)

ok… so if you work for Hotpress, there is no Christmas, no Birthdays, no nothing… as everything is geared towards that one weekend in October when the entire Hotpress camp is relocated to the RDS for the Music Show. And ya know, there is never an ill word spoken about Hotpress during these days, as it is obvious just how vital the magazine is to the Irish music community.

My job this weekend was to snap the feck out of the show. Mostly people photos, which was a welcome break from live photography. I also headed to the Music Show Afterdark session in the Academy where Speech Debelle and David Kitt tore it up…and May Kay (FLApes)and BP Fallon spun some insanely pleasurable tunes! (Tom Vek- yea ya would!)

Not 100 percent blog relevant… but still music and photography, so why not!

Much love to each and every wonderful new friend I met over the days… thanking you x
